Pavonia is a genus of around 220 species of flowering plants in the mallow family, Malvaceae. The generic name honours Spanish botanist José Antonio Pavón Jiménez (1754-1844).

Pavonia praemorsa or Yellow Mallow as it is commonly known forms a rounded shrub to 210cm tall with small 1.5 to 2cm long leaves that are blunt and are medium green on the upper surface and pale green below. The flowers clusters arise from the leaf axils a light apricot colour, and then mature to bright yellow and age to a rose red. Flowering on this shrub is year round, peak blooms in spring and autumn. Plant it in a dry, full sun spot and in well-drained soil. This beautiful flowering shrub is cold hardy to -4°C and can be sheared to maintain as a smaller shrub or as a semi-formal hedge.
