Pelargonium is a genus of flowering plants which includes about 200 species of perennials, succulents, and shrubs, commonly known as geraniums or storksbills. Confusingly, Geranium is the correct botanical name of a separate genus of related plants often called Cranesbills. Both genera are in the Family Geraniaceae. They are drought and heat tolerant, but can tolerate only minor frosts. Some species are extremely popular garden plants, grown as bedding plants in temperate regions.

Pelargonium elongatum or Upright Coconut Geranium as it is commonly known is a small, soft-textured plant that grows up to 25 cm in height and width. The beautiful little gem is easily grown from seed! The young leaves are heart-shaped but become 5-lobed when older, often with a reddish zonal marking. Up to six dainty flowers are borne on long flower stalks, cream in colour with red-wine markings on the two upper, larger petals. The species name, ‘elongatum’ refers to the long flowering stalks.
