The genus is pantropical, occurring in Asia, Africa, Madagascar, Central, South, and southern North America and Australia, but mostly in the Old World tropics.
Albizia tanganyicensis is a South African indigenous species from the Limpopo and North West Provinces. It is commonly known as Fever Tree, Sneezewood, Paper Bark, Paperbark False Thorn, Paper-barked False-thorn or Paper-barked Tree in English and Koorsboom, Papierbas, Papierbasvalsdoring, Papierbas-valsdoring and Papierboom in Afrikaans. It grows into a 10 meter tall tree with smooth pearly bark with thin red papery peel and light green leaves. From spring to summer it bears fluffy heads of creamy-white flowers. This is an attractive garden tree.
