Lapeirousia is a genus with about 40 species in the Iridaceae family that is found across sub-Saharan Africa from Nigeria and Ethiopia to the southwestern Cape. Leaves are flat and curved to narrow and pleated.
Lapeirousia fabricii, synonymously known as Gladiolus fabricii, Ixia fabricii, Meristostigma aculeatum, Meristostigma fabricii, Ovieda aculeata, Ovieda fabricii, Peyrousia aculeata or Peyrousia fabricii and commonly known as Cabong or Kabong in Afrikaans and Painted Petals in English, is a South African endemic species found in the Northern Cape and Western Cape provinces. Lapeirousia fabricii is found on stony sandstone and granitic slopes from Namaqualand to Worcester. This species has ribbed linear leaves and flowers in short spikes on a branched stem. The cream to pink long tubed flowers often have a hooked tooth appendage and red markings on the lower tepals. Flowers are flushed pink on the back and are very pretty.
